From Westport Now: A 42-year-old man wanted for a parole violation led Westport police on a high speed chase for more than six miles early today into Weston where he was taken into custody after being Tasered in a foot chase, police said. It was the first time Westport police have used the stun gun in making an arrest since the town approved their purchase after much debate in October 2008. (See WestportNow Oct. 7, 2008) The incident began at 1:17 a.m. when officers located the man in a car in the commuter parking lot at Merritt Parkway Exit 42 on Weston Road, said Sergeant Michael Hayes. As officers approached, he started the vehicle and drove at them, striking one of them, Paul Wargo, a rookie who joined the department in February. The officer was not injured, Hayes said, but the man, identified as Richard O’dell, no hometown given, took off toward Weston. It was Weston police who had alerted Westport police to be on the look out for him after receiving a report he had taken a car from a home without permission, officers said. A pursuit at speeds of more than 70 miles per hour ensued with the suspect ending up on Logan Lane in Weston’s northern part near Devil’s Den off Godfrey Road. The chase route covered 6.4 miles from the Exit 42 commuter lot. Police said O’dell attempted to drive through the rear yard of 3 Logan Lane where he got stuck. He then exited the vehicle and led a responding officer, Richard Fallia, in a foot pursuit into the woods and swamp area behind the home. “The officer on scene being alone in the dark wooded swamp area then used his Taser to gain compliance and take Richard O’dell into custody,” Hayes said. Following department policy, use of the stun gun will be thoroughly reviewed by senior officers to make sure guidelines were followed, police said. O’dell was charged with interfering with an officer, assault on a police officer, engaging in pursuit, and disobeying a signal of officer, police said. He is being held on a $250,000 bond. He was also charged with several other offenses by Weston police and is also being held for a parole violation, police said. Police did not say what crime he committed for which he is on parole. A Weston ambulance transported O’dell to Norwalk Hospital for examination as is required under Westport police protocol when a Taser is used, police officials said. He was found to be uninjured and then taken to Westport police headquarters for booking.
From Me: The dude hit a cop with a car. My guess is that if there was not a taser the cop would have had to shoot the guy. I guess the 10 members of the 2008 RTM who voted against the taser would have preferred that. According to the 2008 article in Westport Now those people were: Cady, Keenan, Cunitz, Milwe, Seidman, Suggs, Levy, Bomes, Steinberg, McCarthy
I have been on the road a ton the last few weeks and each time I go and spend a lot of time away from Westport and then return I tend to notice how things can be a bit different here. There are lots of great things about living in Westport we all enjoy and there are some things I think we just get use to that are different from just about everywhere else I travel to.
The line cutting: It is fairly common place here. Does this mean that this is an acceptable practice? I lived in NYC and if someone cut a line there they were practically murdered. It was your god given right to blast someone if they cut the line and the guilty party would take their medicine and go to the end of the line. Here the line cutters argue with the people, tell them to F off and march right up to the register, bartender or store clerk, pay and leave. WTF! I have been in three stores or restaurants in town this week and this happened at all three. CVS (no surprise), Fresh Market and the train station platform.
The MILF in the Range Rover, on the cell phone making horrific driving decisions. Weather it is practically side swiping you as they try to change lanes on the post road and after you blow the horn and drive in to the dirt to avoid them they flip you off (true story – happened to me yesterday). The double “parked” SUV in the middle of Main Street so no one can get by while someone runs into a store to shop is always a good one but my personal favorite is the person yapping on the cell when there is a green arrow just sitting there. When someone lets them know the light is green they sit there until it turns red then they run the red light. Funny I only see this in Westport
And of course there is the handicap parking by someone who clearly isn’t handicap. Check out this picture I took at the beach walking the dogs last weekend. This a-hole parked in this spot, dismounted his truck, took out his phone, called someone and started yelling at whom ever he called. There were plenty of other spots available but apparently he had to take this one. And yes he was wearing a Jets hat. He is the leading candidate for ass hole of the year.
Taxes are going up. Sweet!
We have different parts of the town government suing each other. I guess that is part of the Lawyer Full Employment Act. Such a nice program don’t you think. (If you don’t know what I am talking about ask Jimmy Izzo or read his letter to the editor in this week’s Westport Minuteman)
The bars in town are now taking pictures of the customers and posting them on Facebook. This absolutely has to stop.
Anyway I don’t mean to rant the guy parking in the handicap parking spot was the last straw for this long over do comment.
Now for something funny.
So I have figured out why there has been short of shortage of blogs from me. It is Dunvilles and my lack of presence there lately. It has been a whirl wind of a holiday season and when I went in there yesterday I was confronted by some of my loyal readers and pressed to compose a blog. Well we collectively put our thinking caps on, which is quite scary and came up with a few ideas for today’s post.
So here we go…..
Today’s topic has to do with the person who is most likely to get tased in
Here is the list:
Office Howie Simpson
The fat guy who broke the chair (we all chipped in after he did this and bought him a Bud Light)
Anyone in CVS on the
Anyone that works in the Park and Rec department, especially the golf course rangers
Someone with the initials C.L.
Glen – Duh!
Sean – Again!!!
The guy from the Black Duck who on Sundays wont ever EVER EVER shut up talking about soccer to anyone and everyone. I am getting a huge headache just thinking about that guy. Jesus! DUDE… SHUT UP!!!!!!!!
Sean Doyle’s Mom and her friend – Sorry bro I have no idea why.
Chaz Bono – who knew, he…ahhh….she….ahhhh …it lived in
Dedria Imus – apparently she is isn’t nice
The Find bitches at the end of the bar – this was a quote from a women about the 2 dudes at the end of the bar.
Skip – again, he has already been tased by the blog– amazing he was so far down this list don’t you think.
Ok here is the disclaimer. If you are on the list, someone (NOT ME) would like to see you tased. Also to the people on this list in law enforcement I apologize. I have the highest regard for the WPD and the wonderful job you are all doing keeping
Enjoy you week and have a wonderful New Year
Like many of you I travel a lot....well some of you consider traveling going to CVS but that dosent really count. The good news for me it that when I travel at least I am not a complete idiot and I dont have a girl that is a total wack. Take a look at this video. It was the 5th most watch video on the internet in 2009. Enjoy
Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question:
#You're walking down a
deserted street with your wife
two small children.
Suddenly, an Islamic
Terrorist with a huge knife
around the corner, locks eyes with you,
screams obscenities, praises
Allah, raises the
knife, and charges at you.
You are carrying a

You have mere seconds

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club
the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about
Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind
does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be
happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would
content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold
on, could my
family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have
paint and weed day and
make this happier, healthier street that
discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing! I need to
debate this with
some friends for few days and try to come to a
